Nationals Still Hold Out Hope For Oliver Perez

Oliver Perez was promoted by the Nationals to Double-A Harrisburg on Tuesday. I didn't report on it Tuesday because, well, it's Oliver Perez and I didn't care.

But then Nationals General Manager Mike Rizzo came out with this gem:
"We want to see consistency of delivery, holding his delivery together, consistency of command, and the consistency of his velocity and stuff with his other pitches."
Yeah...good luck with that.

  1. Well, no-risk. The Nats could afford to do what the Mets couldn't. Work him slowly in extended spring on mechanics and velocity and health and basically ignore him until he showed something worth promoting.

They'll never get that consistency. He doesn't have it in him. Even with the king of consistency as his pitching coach in Peterson he often strayed to side-arm and altered things.

  2. All true. If the Nationals get even one of those things out of Perez (consistency, command, velocity, etc.), I'll be impressed. I doubt it though.
