Mets Morning News 5-17-11

  • In case you missed it, the Mets announced that Chin-lung Hu and Ryota Igarashi are being sent down to Triple-A Buffalo. In their place, the Mets are calling up Ruben Tejada and activating Pedro Beato from the disabled list. David Wright is most likely heading to the disabled list today after being diagnosed with a stress fracture in his lower back. Nick Evans is scheduled to take his place on the roster.
  • Ike Davis says he's walking a lot better now. He left for Port St. Lucie Monday to begin rehabbing his sprained left ankle. Davis believes he will be back by May 26.
  • Jenrry Mejia underwent Tommy John surgery and Chris Young had surgery to repair a tear in his right shoulder at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Monday. Both surgeries went well. The Mets are single-handedly keeping this hospital afloat.
  • In non-injury news, Mets players will be making appearances in some New York City schools this morning as part of their School is Amazing program. Daniel Murphy and Justin Turner will be in Manhattan to give tips on playing whiffleball, while R.A. Dickey and Mike Pelfrey will head to Brooklyn to coach kids in various activities geared toward keeping the kids healthy and active. Please, nobody get hurt.
UPDATED: Chris Capuano made the trip this morning with Mike Pelfrey, taking R.A Dickey's place.
