Mets Morning News 5-18-11

  • Joshua Robinson of the Wall Street Journal describes how pitchers use subtle sensory clues when they are on the mound.
"Long before the crack of the bat, the smack of the catcher's mitt or the shout of the umpire, many major-league pitchers know whether they've done their job right. Using the feel and sound of the ball as it leaves their hand, they can tell if it will turn into a good pitch, one that has a chance to be a strike, or if that ball will be coming back in the opposite direction."
  • The Mets continue their School Is Amazing tour this week, visiting New York City schools. Today, Jason Pridie and Scott Hairston will head to the Bronx to instruct students in a softball class. Josh Thole will be on hand in Queens to cheer on students as they race around a new track that the students designed.
