David Wright underwent an MRI today at the Hospital for Special Surgery, and preliminary tests showed a stress fracture in his lower back. Wright and the team are seeking a second opinion.
A stint on the disabled list is a possibility depending upon the results of the second opinion.
The cause of the injury dates back to the Mets' first series with the Astros in April, where Wright was involved in a diving play to tag Carlos Lee.
If Wright lands on the DL, it will be the second time in his career. The first time was back in 2009 after getting hit in the head by a pitch from the Giants' Matt Cain.
At this point, surgery is not required, but General Manager Sandy Alderson stated Wright will rest for ten days and then resume baseball activities.
As for tonight's game against the Florida Marlins, Willie Harris will get the start at third base.
