Mets Lose In 11 On A Badenhop Single

I don't even know where to begin with this game. This was one of those games that makes me want to throw things at my television.

  • Mike Pelfrey went seven innings, allowing just one run on six hits, while striking out one and walking two. He gave up a home run in the seventh inning, but what was impressive was how he handled the following batters to get out of the inning. Rather than have a melt down following the homer, Pelfrey was able to get John Buck and Chris Coghlan to pop out, and Hanley Ramirez to ground out, and get out of the inning. Peflrey is looking as though he's finally found his way on the mound, and it's good to see.
  • Justin Turner continued to be productive at the plate, hitting an RBI double in the fourth inning to drive home the Mets only run.
  • Ryota Igarashi, who entered the game for no apparent reason, gave up the go-ahead run to pitcher Burke Badenhop. It was Badenhop's second career hit. Unbelievable.
  • Best part of the game, or at least the most exciting, was in the bottom of the 11th inning. With two outs, Jon Niese came up big with a pinch-hit triple.
  • The game was delayed by an hour and 20 minutes at the start due to "rain" and sloppy field conditions, or in other words because, "We don't want to face Josh Johnson."
Next up: The Mets send Jon Niese to the mound to take on Ricky Nolasco and the Marlins, Tuesday. Game time is 7:10 p.m.

UPDATE: Following tonight's loss, the Mets announced that they have sent Chin-lung Hu to Triple-A Buffalo. Also being sent down is Ryota Igarashi. Ruben Tejada has been called up from Buffalo, and Pedro Beato will be activated from the disabled list.
