Young Does It All In Mets Win

Chris Young did it all in the Mets' 7-1 victory over the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Young went 5.1 innings, giving up just one run on five hits, while striking out seven. Even more impressive was the fact that he also had three hits and an RBI.

Two of those hits came in the 3rd inning in which the Mets scored six runs against Phillies starter Cole Hamels.

With the bases loaded in the third, David Wright drove home two runs with a single to left field. After striking out Carlos Beltran and walking Scott Hairston, Hamels gave up an RBI single to Ike Davis. Brad Emaus joined in the fun by driving in Hairston to make it 5-0. A few batters later, Young entered the batters box for the second time in the inning, and singled to bring home Davis.

The Mets tagged on another run in the 6th inning. After a double by Wright, Hairston singled to left, making it 7-1.

The Phillies lone run of the game came in the 5th inning when Young gave up a double to Placido Polanco, which brought Wilson Valdez around to score.

Ah...one ace down in this series, one more to go. And Joe Blanton somewhere in between.
