ICYMI: The Week In Review
Johan Santana returned from the disabled list on Saturday, giving up eight runs in 1.1 innings to the Braves. Following the poor outing, the Mets are discussing having a six-man rotation starting in September. This would allow for Santana and Chris Young to get an extra day of rest in between starts.
With Santana being activated from the disabled list, Garrett Olsen was designated for assignment. Olsen made just one appearance in his stay with the Mets, and it wasn't a good one, giving up four runs and recording just one out.
The Mets unveiled the 2013 All-Star Game logo this week. You can see the logo here.
After quitting Twitter following backlash from his comments regarding Chik-Fil-A, Jeremy Hefner is giving it another go. You can follow him @jeremy_hefner53. Play nice.
R.A. Dickey earned his 15th win of the season on Thursday, tossing a complete game and recording 10 strike outs and zero walks. Terry Collins has said that Dickey will not be used on short rest this month, but he will consider using him on three-days rest toward the end of the season to help Dickey's chances of winning a Cy Young Award.
On Tuesday, the team announced that they will begin platooning Jason Bay. He will most likely not be in any lineup in which the Mets are facing a right-handed pitcher (unless Bay's record shows he has had major success against that particular pitcher).
On the injury front...
Dillon Gee told ESPN New York that he will most likely not return to the team this season. Gee had surgery on July 13 to repair a damaged artery that caused his arm to go numb.
Tim Byrdak will undergo surgery to repair a torn anterior capsule in his left shoulder. Byrdak hopes to return in late 2013, but there is every possibility that his career is over.

Mets Unveil Official 2013 All-Star Logo
The Mets unveiled the logo for the 2013 All-Star Game, which will be held at Citi Field. The 2013 All-Star Game will be the second hosted by the Mets. They first hosted the mid-summer classic back in 1964.
I like it. It's simple.
Current Mets David Wright, R.A. Dickey, and Johan Santana were joined by former players Keith Hernandez, Ron Darling, Dwight Gooden, and John Franco, as well as representatives from MLB and New York City, to present the official logo.
According to New York First Deputy Mayor Patricia E. Harris, the All-Star Game could bring in as much as $200 million dollars to help boost the city's economy.

ICYMI: The Week In Review
Mike Baxter tied a franchise record, walking five times in Saturday's game in San Diego.
Johan Santana is scheduled to pitch in a rehab game for Brooklyn today. He is expected to return to the Mets next weekend.
Jeremy Hefner is scheduled to join the bullpen once Santana returns to the rotation.
Speaking of Hefner, you won't find him on Twitter any more. He deleted his account after writing, "By the way I am a Christian and absolutely love Chik-fil-A!" As you can expect, this went over well. Unfortunately, rather than countering Hefner's opinion with a respectful rebuttal, he was greeted with hate. I don't blame him for leaving.
The Mets have decided that at some point before the season ends, they will use R.A. Dickey on short rest. They have not, however, decided when that will be.
Frank Francisco returned to the Mets after a stint on the disabled list with a strained oblique. He threw two pitches in his first relief appearance last night to earn the save.
Top pitching prospect, Zack Wheeler, has been promoted to Triple-A Buffalo. He probably won't make it to the big leagues this year though. He is getting close to reaching his innings limit and will most likely be shut down by the end of August.
Sandy Alderson stated that Matt Harvey has an innings limit as well. He will be held to just 165-170 innings in the majors. That means he could be shut down by mid-September.
The trading deadline came and went this week with the Mets making zero moves.
On the injury front...
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who was sent down to Buffalo earlier in the week, suffered a torn plantar fascia in his right foot.
Tim Byrdak was placed on the disabled list with shoulder discomfort. He hurt himself on a pitch in Arizona. He will have an MRI on Monday.
Daniel Murphy has been suffering from a wrist injury since being hit on the wrist by a pitch on Thursday. So far, he has just been taping it up and playing through it.
Andres Torres suffered a thumb injury after a play at first base Monday night. An X-ray showed that there was nothing broken.

Using R.A. Dickey On Short Rest Is A Bad Idea
This will come back and bite the Mets.
According to Metsblog, Terry Collins told reporters before Wednesday's game that the Mets intend on using R.A. Dickey on short rest, although he doesn't know when that will be.
Nothing is set in stone, but it sounds like it will happen at some point before the season ends.
To me, this sounds like, "We're starting to panic and we're going to use one of the only things that has been consistently good as many times as we can before the season ends."
First of all, Dickey is no spring chicken. While his arm doesn't deal with the normal wear and tear of a traditional pitcher, he's still 37-years-old. It will eventually catch up with him.
Second, how will this effect the rest of the rotation? I can see how providing Johan Santana and Chris Young with an extra day of rest could be beneficial, seeing as how they are both coming off surgery. But what about everyone else?
I know that Jon Niese has been better when he gets an extra day of rest, but too bad. This is the big leagues. You pitch every 5 days. Deal with it.
Finally, despite having a remarkable first half, Dickey is starting to come back down to earth. He's been good lately, but not quite as dominant.
Whatever the Mets' reasoning behind this, to me, it just seems like an act of desperation.

ICYMI: The Week In Review
The Mets slide continues as they have lost 13 of their last 15 games. They are now 5 games under .500 and are 12.5 games behind Washington in the division, and 8.5 back in the wild card.
On a positive note, Ike Davis is looking good at the plate. In Saturday's 6-3 loss to the Diamondbacks, Davis hit three solo home runs, becoming the ninth player in franchise history to do so.
Miguel Batista was released be the Mets earlier this week and has since signed a minor league contract with the Braves.
Matt Harvey made his long anticipated debut on Thursday in Arizona. Harvey struck out a franchise high 11 batters in 5.1 innings of work to earn his first major league victory. He was also 2-2 at the plate with a double.
Lucas Duda was sent to Triple-A Buffalo on Tuesday. According to ESPN New York, Terry Collins has instructed Buffalo manager Wally Backman to move Duda to first base should he struggle in the outfield. Duda is to solely focus on hitting while in Buffalo.
Tim Byrdak, Josh Thole, and Dan Warthen found themselves in a little brouhaha during Wednesday's game. After giving up a home run, Byrdak approached Thole in the dugout between innings. Pitch selection was apparently the issue. The bench instructed Thole to call for a fastball, which Byrdak shook off twice. Byrdak then threw a fastball...down the middle of the plate. I don't think the bench called for that.
On the injury front...
Mike Baxter is expected to return to the Mets in time for Monday's opener against the Giants.
Frank Francisco suffered a setback while rehabbing in Binghamton. He once again suffered soreness in his oblique. He is, however, expected to pitch today.
